Perhaps it's my beginner rookie tactics, but I try to specialize and focus my attention on a particular industry or two. In my case, I tend towards technical, which of course probably has more going on in Orange County than perhaps the rest of the nation. If I find something interesting that's not up my alley, I recommend it to a colleague or friend for a commission. I figure they will probably know more about their market than I do. I seem to find myself attending only around a dozen conferences a year, and actually wish I could find more!
